Trigger Finger and Discomfort in the Backbone Resolved After the e-Therapy

Wita (not real name) is a lady from Indonesia. This is her story.

Permission to use this video without having to mask her face is granted by the patient.

13 December 2011

  1. The middle finger of her right hand had difficulty “straightening up.” She had to push up this finger which “locks” on bending. Such problem is referred to as “trigger finger.”  The fingers of her left hand were rather “tight” and not comfortable.
  2. The fingers of her left hand lacked strength although they are not trigger fingers.
  3. She received her first session of e-Therapy.

14 December 2011

  1. She slept well after the e-Therapy. Before the e-Therapy her sleep was not good – probably due to stress and too much thinking.
  2. She did not suffer any side effects after the e-Therapy.
  3. Fingers on her left hand felt better. Previously she had difficulty picking up a pillow with her left hand. After the first session of the e-Therapy she was able to pick up things with her left hand – now her fingers had more strength.
  4. Fingers of her right hand remained the same – the middle finger remained “locked” when bent.

15 December 2011

  1. Fingers of her left hand felt better – even more strength than before.
  2. Fingers of her right hand were better. The middle finger remained a problem but she was able to “open” it with much less effort.

18 December 2011

  1. Fingers of her left hand were good.
  2. Fingers of her right hand were better. Once a while the middle finger still gave problem but she could “trigger” open it and it was not “stuck” any more. According to her, the problem had resolved by about 70 percent.
  3. She had undergone four sessions of the e-Therapy and felt much better.

After five sessions of the e-Therapy, Wita returned to Medan. She returned to CA Care after about three weeks for more of the therapy. The questions we ask:

  • Did her problems recur after the initial treatment three weeks ago?
  • Could the benefits of the e-Therapy be just a placebo effect?

10 January 2012

  1. The healing of her trigger finger and loosening of fingers in both hands remained and they remained good until the end of the year. However from the beginning of 2012 – she did not have a helper at home. So Wita had to do all the house chores of washing using her bare hands. The fingers of her right hand felt “cold” and a bit tight. But the middle finger was still able to “straighten out” and not stuck like before.
  2. The fingers of her left hand remained good.
  3. Before receiving the e-Therapy, she felt “uncomfortable” in her backbone.  When she stood up after sitting down for a long time, she would feel “tight” and felt like “ant-bite”.  After standing up, she had to move slowly at first before she could walk normally. She felt “something” in her backbone. After the e-Therapy she felt good. She could stand up right away and walk without anymore problem.
  4. Her sleep was good after the e-Therapy.

11 January 2012

After another session of the e-Therapy the fingers of her right hand felt better than the day before.

Trigger Finger Resolved After Five Sessions of e-Therapy

What is trigger finger?  Trigger finger, trigger thumb, or trigger digit (medically known as stenosing tenosynovitis) is a problem of your finger or thumb getting stuck in a bent position and to straighten it you have to snap or push it up – like pulling and releasing a trigger of a gun. If trigger finger is severe, your finger may become locked in a bent position and is unable to straighten.

Symptoms: One of the first symptoms may be soreness or swelling at the finger or thumb.  The most common symptom is a painful clicking or snapping when bending or straightening your finger. Trigger finger is more common in women than in men and tends to occur most frequently in people who are between 40 and 60 years of age.

Cause: It may be caused by highly repetitive or forceful use of the finger and thumb. The problem arises due to the inflammation of the tendon. Medical conditions like arthritis and diabetes may also give rise to this problem.

Medical treatment: The doctor may prescribe anti-inflammatory medications such as ibuprofen or naproxen or may give you steroid injection. If your condition does not respond to these treatments, surgery may be recommended.

Case Presentation:  Yoke is a 61-year-old female from Kuala Lumpur. She had a problem of trigger finger over the past seven to eight years ago. About three years ago she underwent an operation to correct the problem. The surgery helped her for some months but the problem recurred after that. Yoke came to see us on 31 October 2011. She underwent five sessions of e-therapy and her problem was resolved.

Listen to our conversation.

Gist of our conversation:

Session 1 – Detox #2: She had good sleep. The tightness of her fingers had loosen up.

Session 2 – Detox # 3: Her sleep was not good. The tightness in fingers had reduced.

Session 3 – Trigger Finger #127: She had less sound sleep. The tightness of her fingers was reduced further. Left hand fingers had returned to normal.

Session 4 – Trigger Finger #127: The problems in both hands were almost resolved. Only one finger in her right hand was still tight.

Session 5 – Rigger Finger #127:  All problems resolved. The “stubborn” finger of her right hand could be straightened without any more pain. She could now open up both hands showing the palms fully.

My Own Experience with Trigger Finger and Trigger Thumb

Over the years, I did suffer from trigger finger.  In the middle of the night, unintentionally one finger was bent and snapped closed. It would not straighten up. I was awakened by this. I had to massage the base of the finger and then push up the bent finger. Sometimes it worked but sometime it did not because it needed more massaging. The problem persisted for some weeks.  I did not do anything but learnt how to live with it. Fortunately the problem went away by itself. It comes back again once a while.

My problem became serious sometime in August when we were about to go to USA visiting our children. My thumb became swollen and could not bend. And when it was bent I could not straighten it. Of course it was painful and I had to massage it. Massaging helped a bit but did not cure it. I realized that the cause of this “bad” thumb was due to the over use of my thumb – for years I have been using my right thumb to pry open the lid of the herbal containers in our centre. During August I over used my thumb because I needed to prepare many herbal teas before going for our holiday. Now, I learn not to use my thumb any more for this. Instead,  I use the fingers of my right hand to open the container.

During our stay in the US for three weeks, I had to endure the pain and discomfort of a trigger thumb. On certain days the thumb became more swollen – probably due to increased inflammation after eating certain food.

When I came back from the US, I started to read about trigger finger. I wrote Program #127 (Trigger Finger) for my e-machine and began to use it. After a week, the problem was resolved. Based on this experience, with much confidence, I was able to help the above lady.

Four Days of Healing – Movements Restored, Pains Gone and Slept Well

Acknowledgment: Permission to use this video without having to hide her identity is granted by the patient.

This is a bitter-sweet story of Le, a 37-year-old female from Indonesia. She came to us on 14 October 2011 after having been diagnosed with breast cancer that had probably spread to her lungs. She had undergone 106 radiation treatments besides taking a variety of supplements.  She presented with aches and pains throughout her body, especially the joints. Bodily movements were difficult.  She could not sleep well and she had coughs.

After four days here, how do you feel now? Le: Healthier. I feel better.

When you came here last Friday (four days ago), compared to to-day, do you feel you are better? Le: Yes. I can walk faster now. I have more energy. It is like I was before I had cancer. When I came here I was still tired and lethargic. But yesterday I could walk from the apartment to the market. My husband took the wrong turn and we missed the market. We had to walk up and down everywhere. But I was alright. I had no problem walking. And I also walked fast. Before I had to drag my feet when walking and my back was hunched.

What about your sleep? Le: Before I came here, I had to wake up five times a night to urinate. I coughed. So my sleep was not good and disturbed. I often had dreams of my loved ones who had died. They came to invite me to “go home”. After I took the herbs and did the e-Therapy I could sleep well. I had no more dreams.

In terms of bodily movements, are you more agile now? I realized the first day you were here, you had difficulty moving your hands, etc. Le: I am back to being a normal person now. I can do the following (demonstrate all the actions):

  1. Raise my arms up high and straight up.
  2. Put my hands behind my heads to tie my hair. Before when I had long hair my daughter had to tie my hair for me.
  3. I can hold the broom and sweep the floor. I can swing my arms.
  4. I can make my bed and fold the blanket.
  5. I can bend down and touch the floor with my hands.
  6. I can bend my wrists.
  7. I can undress and wear the bra by myself.
  8. I can fold my legs and cut my toe nails.
  9. I can climb in bed right away without any having to slide in slowly.
  10. I can fold my arms and use my little finger to clean my ear.
  11. I can clap my hands – no pain.
  12. I can use my hand to smack the mosquito – no pain. Before it was painful even to touch the skin.
  13. I can snap my fingers and make this clicking sound.
  14. I can grasp something and bend my fingers.
  15. When I breathe deeply, there is no more tightness in my chest.
  16. This morning I walked faster than my husband.

Now you seem to have regained your movements and quality of life. Are you happy? Le: Yes. This is what I have been hoping for. When I was unable to walk I told my pastor that I wanted to die. I have lost all hope. This is because

  • Movements were so difficult.
  • I can’t even scratch my buttock when I felt itchy. My husband had to help me scratch.
  • I could not button my trousers – my husband had to do this for me.

See now, I can twist my body to the right or left without any pain, I can stand on one leg and I can eat rice with my hand.

Now do you still want to die? Le: No, no more.

Okay, four days on the Therapy. Did you feel good?  Le: Absolutely good.

Are you confident now? Le: Absolutely confident. When I came here, I knew that this is God’s answer to my prayers.

When you go home, take the herbs as instructed. Then you must take care of your diet as we have taught you. Exercise. Don’t think too much – relax and take it easy. Don’t stress yourself too much. What is important is to try to live a normal life. Le: My facial appearance looks good now. More “glow”.

Okay, I am real happy. Please take care when you are at home. Remember what we have told you. Do not do anything that is not right. And above all, remember that healing takes time. Have patience.
